Inspiration Pyramora

12-11-2010;
As intern for the textile print design at Beyond the Valleyand becoming a textile designer myself, I am always drawn towards collections with an emphasis on fabrics and in this respect, Ada Zandition delivered. At Beyond the Valley we already sell 3 of her earlier designs!
She contrasts futuristic and colourful prints with bold 3D shapes and structures, all stemming from her inspiration, Pyramids and Coral Reefs. The collection demonstrates a lovely balance of super light & airy fabrics, solid leather and heavy metallic silks.

The inspiration for the Pyramora collection comes from a fusion aesthetics of The Great Pyramid and the beautiful, delicate structure of coral reefs. Pyramids are often portrayed as sombre dark burial chambers, but were, in fact, regarded as vehicle of resurrection is connected to modern day Egypt,
where locals defy global corporations by protecting the environment and flourishing corals,
from over exposure to the tourist industry.

Ada Zandtion's collection is a mathematical exploration of spiritual and environmental ideas, allowing the pyramid structures of the Egyptian desert to tessellate and create natural patterns similar to the formation of coral. Reefs of pyramids adorn the collection in delicate metallic hues.

I just love the concept, the colours, and combination of the geometric 3D shapes and floating textile prints!

Sunday Up Market

10-11-2010;
Brick Lane Market is a London market centred around Brick Lane, Tower Hamlets, in East London. It operates every Sunday.
So last Sunday I had a great afternoon with Nora Juliette and her friend out and about in Bricklane, we just looove this area with all the exclusive edgy and arty things going on over there!
Recently the area has also broadened to being a vibrant art and fashion student area, with considerable exhibition space. Each year most of the fine art and fashion courses exhibit their work near Brick Lane!

A part of the Brick Lane Market is the Sunday UpMarket first opened its doors in September 2004. With over 140 stalls selling fashion, accessories, crafts, interiors and music, it is undoubtedly one of London's most exciting and imaginative markets.
You can find everything from edgy women's wear, customised men's clothing, high fashion, a lot of vintage, and beautifully tailored children's clothes to handmade jewellery.
I bought a pair of hand-embroidered leather Indian moccasins, just had to buy them because they look so beautiful! And not expensive at all!
I think when you love Portobello Rd. market and Camdentown, you really like the Brick Lane area too!

Going FINSK

06-11-2010;
Julia Lundsten set up FINSK way back in 2004 and the label is known for it's innovation and architectural design. Lundsten's label has a bit of a cult following after Fashion Week collaborations with the likes of Basso & Brooke, with the black pony hair version of FINSK's wedges selling out in New York when they came out!
But there is much more to this fabulous footwear label than just eyecatching design. Each pair is handmade by artisans in Brazil from locally sourced materials and even the leather is eco-friendly, all leather pieces used are by-products and offcuts!

Being an intern at Beyond the Valley, gives me a lot of oppurtunities to socialize and netwerking within London with all kind of bloggers, fashion- and designlabels!
So I got a private invite for the FINSK secret sample sale. Yesterday evening I went to the TimeOut building, where they had their FINSK pop-up sample store. When I came in they checked if my name was on the list! ( whaha MY name on a list..!)
And I got a FINSK visitors pass so I could go to the second floor, to discover a real SHOE WALHALLA!
Really the whole FINSK collection was included in that room! From the first collection pieces untill the last stunning geometric wedge collection!

I met a few very cool people that are working for FINSK, also Danell B. she is a creative director.
We talked about FINSK, the label, and I told her about my life in London, and my part in the team  @ BTV.
Danell was interested in me because I'm a Textile Design student, and maybe she could arrange a collaboration between me and FINSK sometime...!!! I mean ,if I make something in the future that really was FINSK-like or something ! So maybe there IS a chance for me to become something one day! ;)
She said that it was really good to netwerk and socialize with the right people in this world, and that I really fit in this town! That was a good thing to hear!
While I was craaaving for the new collection of FINSK, I decided not to buy any yet...the price was still tooo high...So I wait before I leave London, and buy a pair at BTV I think, they collaborate with FINSK so that's a big plus!

Below you see some snapshots from the sample sale, oh and I got that marvelous Lady Gaga picture from Danell B. when she was in London wearing FINSK to her Yoga lessons! How absolutely suberb!

* && Special invite!

* && Welcome to the SHOE walhalla!

* && the wedges are suberb!

* && I'm in love with this collection..!

Platform wedges have become one of you signatures as seen in of LFW SS11 Preview Issuewhy this particular shoe?
I think wedges in particular can be both comfortable and quite a statement. I try to design the FINSK wedges so they look graphic and constructive, rather than heavy, which wedges sometimes can appear. I'm working on a lot of other shapes too such as block high heels that again are designed with colours and lines to create an illusion of lightness although the shape is block and therfore gives the wearer more support than a super thin heel.
Another area we always work on is medium high heels which are probably the most difficult to get right, but since all of us at the FINSK studio need to be able to walk around but still want something with a heel and cool aesthetic, they have been our long time favourites. ---> Julia Lundsten FINSK

Lanvin Loves H&M

03-11-2010;
H&M is proud to announce that its next designer collaboration will be with Lanvin, one of the most influential brands of the 21st century. Designed by Lanvin’s artistic director Alber Elbaz, and menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver, the collection will go on sale on November 23 in around 200 H&M stores worldwide!
The collection of both womenswear and menswear was revealed to the world on November 2, just three weeks before the clothes hit the store, making the launch of Lanvin for H&M among the most anticipated fashion events of the year.

I think this could be really one of the best collaborations between H&M and a couture label!
The sneak peak pics I found ,showing very interesting artwork, colours, and styles of the collection!
And at the Lookbook images I see sooo many good things.....just WANT a piece of them!
Now the only thing is, are the fabrics not tooo cheap..? Sometimes they are a little bit unflattering for a woman's body, so check first how it looks on you before you buy an item!
