I See Ghostly...

29-10-2010;
Most holidays commemorate or celebrate something. But what about Halloween?
What is Halloween actually a celebration of? And how did this peculiar custom originate?
Is it, as some claim, a kind of demon worship? Or is it just a harmless vestige of some ancient pagan ritual where folks get together for parties, dress up in Halloween costumes and bob for candy?

The word itself, "Halloween," actually has its origins in the Catholic Church. It comes from a contracted corruption of All Hallows Eve. November 1, "All Hollows Day" (or "All Saints Day"), is a Catholic day of observance in honor of saints.
But, in the 5th century BC, in Celtic Ireland, summer officially ended on October 31. The holiday was called Samhain (sow-en), the Celtic New year.

Because it's almost Halloween weekend in London, I looked around to find some inspiration for all about being ghostly!
Inside magazines, older fashion designer collections like McQueen, some show windows around town and texts on the street, I put together some snapshots, to create my own Halloween feeling!
Trick or threat! :)

'A presence that disturbs me with the joy
Of elevated thoughts; a sense sublime
Of something far more deeply interfused,
Whose dwelling is the light of setting suns,
And the round ocean and the living air,
And the blue sky, and in the mind of man:
A motion and a spirit that impels
All thinking things, all objects of all thought'

* Happy Halloween my friendly ghosts!

Three Bright Days!

26-10-2010;
With only one month to go before I have to go back to the Netherlands again... ( OMG I'm sooo gonna miss this city! ) Last weekend Kira, a very good friend of mine, was visiting me here in London!
She , and I, really looked forward to this trip, and had three bright days, full of sightseeing, shopping, markets, and coffee, out and about in the Capital!

I picked her up at Kings Cross St. Pancrass International station, because she came in with Eurostar. After a Starbucks coffee break ( yesss we are addicted..!)  with a lot of catching up and Bday-gifts for Kira, we went to Leyton, and dropped all her stuff at my room.
The rest of the day we were out and about everywhere around the centrum! And had a nice little diner at a Italian lounge/bar restaurant, very 2010! ;)
When we got home at my room, we were totally exhausted walking/shopping around all day, and just chilled out in pyjama with some cappucino and Gossip Girl on screen! --.> very girly but we liked it!

The next day we went to Camdentown, Kira really wanted to see all the markets and the edgy shops over there, because every week you will find other interesting things that makes you think; WAAANT!
In the evening, I had to go from 5 'till 8 to Beyond the Valley, making a photoshoot at Central Saint Martins, of inspiration material ( something with rough metal structures!! ) for our upcoming AW11 collection we just started with!
So meanwhile, Kira could shop around Oxford St. for some souvenirs for her boyfriend and family ;)
And again, we where so tired being back at my room, that we early went to bed...
The morning after we quickly dressed to go to Harrods, ( yesss we had to see some tourist things! ) before Kira had to go to Kings Cross again, to get her Eurostar train on time!

We loved the glitter and glam inside Harrods, and even we can't afford the most high couture in there, I bought a new Chanel lipstick ( j'adore! )
Sadly enough it was time to say goodbye to my good friend again...With a good feeling I went home, and a memory of three bright days in London richer!
